For teachers & librarians · Grades 6–12

Turn your class into readers.

In about three minutes, a student finds out what kind of reader they are and walks away with a short list of books chosen for that kind of reader. Pre-order the book for your classroom and the posters, reading logs, and event materials come with it.

Free. Students never sign up or give an email. Works on phones and Chromebooks.
“

My students — English learners, special education students, low-level readers — were so excited to get books that would appeal to them. There wasn’t any wandering around aimlessly. They are motivated to read.

How it works in a classroom

Stop asking what they should read.
Start with who they are.

More than two million people have taken the Read Your Color quiz. This version keeps the same system underneath but is written for grades 6–12. It is shorter, the book descriptions are age-appropriate, and the result ends with titles picked for middle or high school.

1

Students take the quiz

Students react to twelve short book descriptions, then rate twelve “is this you?” statements. It takes about three minutes on any device, and we never ask for a name or an email.

2

Everyone gets a color

Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, or Purple, along with a subtype, a tip for finding books on the shelf, and six titles chosen for their grade band.

3

Go to the library with a plan

Put the poster up, hand out the reading log, and let students browse by color instead of wandering the stacks. From there the 120-day challenge carries the habit.

Questions

Questions teachers ask us

Is the student quiz really free?

Yes, and it stays free whether or not you ever order the book. The kit is the thank-you for pre-ordering.

Does it collect any student information?

No. There is no login and no place to type a name or email. A student picks middle or high school so the book list fits, answers 24 questions, and sees a result. The only thing saved is their progress, on their own device, so a refresh doesn’t send them back to the start.

What ages is the student quiz for?

Grades 6 through 12. The book descriptions were written with that range in mind, and the recommendations come in a middle school set and a high school set.

What’s in the book, and is it for students?

Read Your Color is written for adults who want to build a reading habit that lasts. It explains the six reading types and lays out a 120-day plan for each one. Teachers use the book as the backbone of a classroom or library reading program, and the kit carries the same ideas to students.

Do I have to order from a specific store?

No. Order from whichever retailer you like, in any format, from any country. Local bookstores and school vendors count too. Send whatever proof of purchase you have.

When will I get the kit?

Download links go out within a few days of your receipt arriving, and no later than publication day, November 3, 2026. Virtual visits get scheduled for the weeks after launch.
